Cupcake Party

Do not Google Cupcake Party. And if you do, do not click on the Urban Dictionary link. Especially if you are a man. Unless, of course, you are a very lonely man in need of some lovin' of the non-marital kind.

Consider yourself warned.

So, I've decided to do a cupcake themed party. I will bake a schload of cupcakes in various flavors (I'm thinking chocolate, vanilla, and carrot - am I missing anything major????) and whip up different frostings (cream cheese, buttercream, whipped cream [is that the same as buttercream or different?]) and throw a whole schlew of candies and decorating stuff on the table for people to decorate.

How many cupcakes per person? Should I provide boxes so people can take some home?

We always do dinner and booze and juice/soda/punch.

Should I bake a big cake? D is obsessed with blowing out candles. Maybe I could bake a giant cupcake?

We don't know a whole bunch of kids her age, so it will mainly be family. Do you think adults would yawn at this idea?

I love the idea! Not just for kids--I mean I also love it as an adult. I would love to customize a cupcake. Or two. Or three.

Lemon cupcakes would be yummy, or strawberry. Marble.

I'm not sure how many per person. I'd err on the side of too many, and then freeze the extras.

I'll bet you could make a giant cupcake with an angel food cake for the bottom and a regular round cake for the top. Or maybe the sizes wouldn't be right. Hm.

Or you could do a candle on the top of each of a bunch of cupcakes.

Love this idea. I think it would be fun.

Yes, whipped icing is different than buttercream. Much different flavor.

I'd say 2-3 per person.

I like the idea of making a "giant" cupcake, but unless she's set on a big cake I'd just put candles in a cupcake for her. Or you can get a cupcake stand, and put the whole thing in front of her to blow out the candles on top or something.

Plenty of places sell cupcake stands now. This site had several for sale in case you didn't know what I meant. http://www.fancyflours.com/cgi-bin/fancyflours/xdpy/sf/Bakeware/Cake%20Stands/index.html

I was going to suggest a cupcake stand, too! And lemon cupcakes! I got here too late.

I think everyone would have fun customizing their own cupcakes.

I'm a big fan of strawberry cake mix--very girly!

We got signed up for early intervention today--next up, our evaluation. Thanks for recommending that we get started early. I think two and a half months is early enough.

Um, cupcakes would definitely be all right with me! Plus, the element of the unexpected and quirky makes a party more fun! I second the strawberry flavor idea, BTW. Ooh, and also, you know that Rainbow Chip flavor, I think it's Betty Crocker? VERY good for cupcakes.

Target has cupcake trees:

We used one at our wedding. It looked pretty cute after the cupcakes were on it.

I'd add strawberry or a confetti cake type. Very girly and birthday-ish.

Wilton makes a cupcake cake pan.. super cute it is not 3d. It uses 2 cake mixes and usually turns out really nice,.. Check ebay for it though. Or Michaels ( whith a coupon it's only a few dollars) Buttercream and whipped are not the same thing.. I like Marthat Stewarts buttercream THE best!
