Post-Botox by Five Days

On Saturday (post-Botox three days) we really started to see the effects kick in. In the morning, Darsie's foot was nice and relaxed and super easy to flip into her DAFO. She walked gorgeously! But by Saturday evening, poor D could hardly walk due to those uber-strong muscles being paralyzed and her weaker muscles having to up the anti and get to work. She has been falling a lot and even complained of some foot/calf pain last night (Sunday). She is doing a weird sort of shuffle walk at this point but is able to get to and from places. She walks really well with her DAFO on, so we've been leaving it on almost all the time currently. I don't know if other families experienced this drastic of an effect or not, but it is somewhat disconcerting while being triumphant at the same time, if that makes any sense. We are off to the physical therapist this morning and will more than likely serial cast D's foot today.

Anyways, pre-Botox by six days, dance party.

And taken just this morning, post Botox by five days.

Thats AMAZING!! It's a great idea to keep the video diary, so you can really see the difference. I know exactly what you mean about it being disconcerting at the same time though, but it looks like Darsie is doing really well. :-)

With best wishes
Abi and family (UK)

Thank you so much for sharing the progress reports with us. I'm so glad to know what's going on.

Her foot looks great! I imagine it must be a little tough when all those spastic muscles are taken out of the equation, but what an opportunity too! Keep us posted!

Wow, that makes quite a difference. I hope that it continues to work well for her.

My daughter has had botox twice and two rounds of serial casting but not at the same time (four different times) We found the botox made her clumsy as well and the serial casting helped her TREMENDOUSLY! We didn't know a doctor that would do the serial casting when we did the botox so I can't speak about the combo but I highly recommend the cast. One other tidbit that we just found is that after her last casting, we got her a new AFO as well as a night splint. (her issues is tiptoeing due to right side hemiplegia). The combination of her wearing the brace during the day and the brace at night has been by far the most effective treatment to date. She is still partially on her toe without the brace but she so much more flexible and has MUCH better form. The night splint was ordered by the orthotic office and it's not custom made, just s,m,l and has velcro that you can adjust to keep the foot in a neutral position while she sleeps. It may help your little girl too! Good luck to you! I can already see the progress in the video! Feel free to email me for more info jcabrie@carolina.rr.com.

WOOOOOW! I am late commenting as we have been caught up in our own Botox drama, but this just so exciting! She walks/dances wonderfully! Interesting choice of music there, too!
